HIST electron data R. Selesnick, February 2005 The files each cover one year from 1996 through 2001. In the file names YYYY is the year: histeYYYY.txt unix text files containing spin averaged electron intensities. Each data point is a 384 second average. All data are included for which the dipole L is less than 10 or the radial distance R is less than 3 Earth radii. Data gaps are indicated by intensity values of -1. Columns are labeled at the top of each file. They are: 1. year 2. UT decimal day of year 3. radial distance R in Earth radii 4. dipole L shell 5-11. intensity in units of electrons/(cm2.s.sr.MeV) for the labeled energies (0.8, 1.1, 1.6, 2.2, 3.2, 4.5, 6.4 MeV) histePYYYY.txt same as above except for intensity perpendicular to the magnetic field instead of spin averaged, and the L shell is replaced by dipole magnetic local time (MLT). histeYYYY.pdf summary plots of the histeYYYY.txt data files. The intensity versus time is plotted with each orbit lined up at closest approach. A plot of L versus time in the same format is also included. histePYYYY.pdf summary plots of the ratio of perpendicular to spin averaged intensity in the same format as above. This is a measure of the anisotropy. A plot of MLT versus time is also included. histeLYYYY.pdf summary plots of intensity in L versus time format. histe.pro IDL programs for reading the histe data files and making the summary plots. Plotting instructions are in comments at the top of the file.
