README file for SMEI data at Storm CDAW See Dave Webb for details. There are 3 kinds of SMEI data available for each event: 1) a movie (gif or avi) 2) a height-time plot (tiff) 3) the assoc. h,t (txt) and other data that goes with the event. 11 columns: Julian date, year, day of year and fractional time, day of year, hours, minutes, seconds, elongation in deg. (shows range), azimuth location (deg. CCW from ecl. north), span (deg.), and brightness (adu's). Each row shows one elongation vs time point on a h,t plot. Each data file has a name of the form "CME_2003_311_041709_..." giving the year, DOY, and time for a given event followed by: 1) bwm.gif/.avi or cm.gif/.avi for movies; "bwm"=black&white movie; "cm"=color movie. A few have "f" inserted for "fisheye" projection. The PPT presentation, Webb_SMEI_CMEs_LWS04.ppt, gives background on SMEI and the projection techniques used in the movies. 2) NW1.HT.tif for height-time plots, where NW1 refers to the first plot in the NW direction. 3) The same with .txt for the measurements files. Other SMEI files: 1) Storms + SMEI CMEs DW.xls is an Excel table comparing the CDAW storms with assoc. SMEI CMEs, including the time difference (Tdiff) bet. when first obs. in SMEI and shock arrival or storm onset at 1 AU, and assoc. LASCO CMEs and EIT flares. 2) Storms+SMEI_CMEs_key.txt is a file showing the cross reference between CDAW storm number and SMEI event DOY to aid in associating each SMEI file with a given storm. 3) SMEI_CME_Summary_list.xls is an Excel table listing all identified SMEI CMEs and key measurements and preliminary associations. 4) Some movie files showing 3D reconstructions of the May 2003 halo event, courtesy B. Jackson, UCSD. The 28-29 Oct. 2003 event reconstructions are shown in the PPT presentation. 5) Papers describing these events are halo_publ...pdf (Tappin et al.; May 2003 halo) and BJ_28Oct2003_JGR.pdf (Jackson et al.; Oct. 2003). Non-SMEI files: 6) 360HALOCME+EIT_arcades.xls is an Excel table listing Webb's full halo LASCO CMEs from 1996 throiugh 2000 with associated solar sources, 1 AU signatures, storms and EIT arcades, from Tripathi et al., 2004 (included). 7) zhao_webb...pdf paper describing solar cycle variations of geoeffectiveness of halo CMEs in above list.
